Dark Fantasy Adventure ‘Under Mythos’ Announced for Switch and PC From Pokémon

KADATH has announced Under Mythos, a dark fantasy JRPG planned for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam in 2028. The game combines hot spring inn management with dungeon exploration and features creators with credits on Pokémon, Tales of the Abyss, Grandia, Lunar, and Ace Attorney.

The story follows a lone cat searching for its mother after arriving in a strange place. The cat eventually finds a mysterious hot spring inn visited by unusual guests and begins working there while continuing the search. What starts as a peaceful routine gradually changes as disturbing events begin affecting the surrounding area.

Players will spend time managing the inn and exploring dungeons for food and other resources. Dungeon expeditions feature action combat against creatures that have taken on grotesque forms. Players who return safely can use their collected materials and rewards to develop the inn, leading to new encounters and further exploration.

KADATH describes the dungeon structure as having extraction elements, with players needing to make it back safely before putting gathered resources toward the inn’s development.

Several veteran Japanese game creators are attached to the project. Atsuko Nishida, who has worked on several Pokémon designs, is handling character design. Tales of the Abyss scenario writer Takumi Miyajima is responsible for the scenario, while Noriyuki Iwadare, known for his work on the Grandia, Lunar, and Ace Attorney series, is composing the music.

Nishida’s work on Under Mythos includes an interpretation of Nyarlathotep from the Cthulhu Mythos as a small cat-like character. Iwadare also noted that the soundtrack changes alongside the game’s tonal shift, moving from Japanese-inspired music into faster jazz as the story becomes more unstable.

Under Mythos is the first project from KADATH, a Tokyo-based game planning and production company founded by producer Yoichi Miyaji. Miyaji previously produced RPGs including entries in the Lunar and Grandia series. The studio is currently preparing a vertical slice covering the game’s core mechanics alongside its planned visual and audio direction.

KADATH has also released a teaser trailer for Under Mythos, offering an early look at the hot spring inn, dungeon exploration, and the game’s shift into darker material. All footage shown is from the game while it remains in development.

Under Mythos is planned to launch for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam in 2028. KADATH is also seeking development partners as production continues.
