Dungeon Automata Is a Programming-Focused Dungeon Crawler With a Steam Demo Out

Raw Fury and Kakehashi Games have announced that they will publish Dungeon Automata, a programming-focused dungeon crawler developed by Medium-Rare Games. A playable demo is available now on PC via Steam.

Dungeon Automata puts players in control of a party of golems whose behavior is determined through programming. Before entering the Tower of Corruption, players create blueprints that dictate how each golem responds to enemies, traps, bosses, and other situations.

Once the party enters a dungeon, the golems act automatically. Players are left to study what happens, adjust their logic, and try again. Progress comes from analyzing enemy behavior and improving how each party member works alongside the others.

Players can also collect catalysts that improve a golem’s physical capabilities and nodes that add new actions or targeting logic. Additional parts found throughout the dungeon can be used to customize the party further.

Dungeon Automata takes place in Syntaxia, where monsters have appeared alongside the Tower of Corruption. Players use alchemy to create golems and send them through handcrafted dungeon levels on the way to the tower’s summit.

The game features 8-bit pixel art and a soundtrack composed by Yuzo Koshiro, known for his work on Streets of Rage, Etrian Odyssey, and Ys.

Raw Fury and Kakehashi Games are co-publishing Dungeon Automata with developer Medium-Rare Games. A release date has not yet been announced, but the game can be wishlisted on Steam now, where its playable demo is also available.

A new announcement trailer was released alongside the publishing news, showing the game’s programming systems, automated party combat, and dungeon exploration.
