A South Korean politician has urged the country’s president to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, arguing that its depiction of a North Korean invasion highlights the importance of military preparedness.

Modern Warfare 4 features a campaign centered around North Korea launching an invasion of South Korea, with players fighting to defend the country as the conflict escalates.

The storyline has sparked debate in South Korea, with some expressing concerns that the game could increase hostility toward North Korea.

However, independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon believes President Lee Jae Myung could learn something from playing it.

“I recommend the president play this game and feel firsthand what kind of devastation unfolds when defense preparedness falls short,” he said.

“I hope the image of a Seoul reduced to ashes in the game remains in the realm of fiction.”

Han also pushed back against concerns that the game could increase hostility toward North Korea, arguing that its fictional storyline reflects genuine security threats.

“North Korea’s invasion on June 25, 1950, was real history, and North Korea’s military threat remains an undeniable reality today,” he said.

“Rather than frowning at the game for depicting a North Korean invasion, we need to focus on the question it poses.”

Han went on to criticize Lee’s national security policies, raising concerns about South Korea’s military readiness and the potential consequences of scaling back joint military exercises with the United States.
