Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko’s Mystery Dungeon -Classic HD- Steam Update

Square Enix has released a new Steam update for Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko’s Mystery Dungeon -Classic HD-, improving movement responsiveness, diagonal movement controls, and the speed of prompts when using stairs. Updates containing the same adjustments are also planned for other platforms.

The patch arrives just over a week after the dungeon-crawling RPG launched worldwide on September 9, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. The release marked the first time the original 1993 Torneko’s Mystery Dungeon was officially released outside Japan.

According to Square Enix, the Steam update makes general character movement more responsive and adjusts diagonal movement controls. Stair prompts should also appear more quickly, while the patch contains several other fixes and adjustments that were not detailed.

The changes are notable following some of the issues we encountered during our review. We found that parts of the Classic HD release could feel sluggish, including text boxes that occasionally held up the game for several seconds. We also felt the port could have benefited from additional quality-of-life improvements while preserving the difficulty of the original dungeon crawler.

Torneko’s Mystery Dungeon stars Torneko, the merchant introduced in Dragon Quest IV. Players enter randomized dungeons in search of treasure, with each action allowing enemies to take a turn as well. Successful runs help Torneko expand his shop and progress through the game.

Square Enix has not announced when the update will reach Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series, only stating that updates for other platforms are coming soon.
